2025 Annual Report: A Year of Extraordinary Challenge, Growth, and Resilience

SVCM’s 2025 Annual Report is now available!

2025 was a year of extreme challenge for the Swannanoa Valley, as our community navigated the first year of recovery from Helene. SVCM saw increased community need across the board. Helene damaged an estimated 11,500 homes and destroyed 372 in Buncombe County. In the months following, county unemployment tripled to nearly 11%. At the same time, cost-of-living increased by about 5% from 2024 to 2025. Amidst all this hardship, we also witnessed the remarkable resilience of our neighbors, who are persevering to find healing and hope.

2025 was a year of extraordinary growth for SVCM, as we expanded capacity in our existing programs and added new ones to meet unprecedented needs. In our Crisis Ministry, we offered 257% more rental assistance, 60% more utility assistance, and served 95 more households in 2025 compared to 2024. We also added two new programs to SVCM — NeighborCare and Hammer & Heart. Wow, were we busy!
