Make Christmas brighter for a child in the Swannanoa Valley.
For families facing financial hardship, Christmas can bring an added burden. Johnny Raines Christmas Cheer gives community members the opportunity to step in and make sure the children of the Swannanoa Valley have the joy of receiving a gift on Christmas morning.
For more than 20 years, Swannanoa Valley Christian Ministry has connected sponsors with families in our community through the Christmas Cheer program. Sponsors receive a child’s wish list and have the joy of choosing gifts that will bring a little extra Christmas cheer.
In 2025, 99 sponsors provided Christmas for 285 children from 111 families.
You may never meet the child you’re sponsoring, but you can know that your generosity is helping a family experience the joy, dignity, and hope of Christmas.

Do you need a little help making ends meet this Christmas?
Please come visit us at 101 N. Ridgeway Ave. in Black Mountain during business hours to fill out an application. The form linked above is only for those who are sponsoring a child.
Requirements to receive assistance:
This program is only for families residing in SVCM’s service area, from the VA Hospital east to the Buncombe/McDowell County Line. Not sure if you live in our service area? Please give us a call at (828) 669-9404.
You can apply for children who are 18 years or younger, currently attending school, and living in your household.
Please come to the SVCM Office from October 21 to November 11 to apply.
